Universal Credit launched in Hammersmith and Fulham

JobCentrePlusThe London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham is the latest council to roll out Universal Credit for new benefit recipients.

The Hammersmith and Fulham pilot will trial two new elements of the claim process: intensive back to work support upon making a new claim and the ‘claimant commitment‘.

According to the DWP, claimants will have 4 face-to-face interviews with their Work Coach within the first 2 weeks of their Universal Credit claim – with the first lasting 90 minutes. The ‘claimant commitment’ will set out what is expected of jobseekers in order to receive their benefit and will state the consequences of failing to meet these requirements.

However, there are concerns that the pilot will be limited due to problems with the IT infrastructure that underpins Universal Credit.

You can read the DWP’s own press release on the launch here. However, there was nothing on the launch on the LBHF homepage or the council’s information on Universal Credit.

Benefit claimants interested in learning how Universal Credit will impact them can use the Universal Credit Calculator, while advisor organisations should contact us to license the Universal Benefit Calculator.

We will update this story as it develops.
